- CRRT is a life saving treatment, which supports the patient while giving the kidneys time to heal.
- The time needed for kidneys to return to adequate function is variable and cannot be predicted.
- Not all patients will recover adequate renal function.
- CRRT is expensive. Costs may vary between centers.
- CRRT in an unstable acute renal failure patient is NOT risk free.

Point for veterinarians:
- An pet whoes owner expresses an interest in CRRT should be transferred as soon as possible.
- The chance of a successful treatment increases with earlier intervention.
- Attempt to leave at least one jugular vein untouched. No blood drawing, no catheters, ect.
- It is important that a dialysis center be contacted directly before referring a patient.
